Do, Do, Do is from, Oh, Kay!, a 1926 musical with music by George Gershwin, lyrics by Ira Gershwin, and a book by Guy Bolton and P. G. Wodehouse. It is based on the play La Presidente by Maurice Hanniquin and Pierre Veber. The plot revolves around the adventures of the Duke of Durham and his sister, Lady Kay, English bootleggers in Prohibition Era America. Kay finds herself falling in love with a man who seems unavailable. (Wiki)
This was recorded live in studio and is Take 2. Matt Baker, who now New York City based, is at the piano. Greg Poppleton stands beside him to sing at the microphone. This track is a tribute to Matt's amazing musicality. The original pianist for the session, our very dear friend, Chris Tapperell, died the Friday evening before this Monday morning recording. Matt came in at the last minute. He was only available for an hour. He had not heard Do, Do, Do before. But after one listen of the Annette Hanshaw recording with Greg, and with Chris' chord changes at the piano, we recorded two takes and liked the second one best piano stool squeak and all. Enjoy!
I remember the bliss
Of that wonderful kiss.
I knew that a boy
Could never have more joy
From any little miss.
I remember it quite;
'Twas a wonderful night.
Oh, how I'd adore it
If you would encore it.
0h -
Chorus
Do, do, do
What you've done, done, done
Before, Baby.
Do, do, do
What I do, do, do
Adore, Baby.
Let's try again,
Sigh again,
Fly again to heaven.
Baby, see
It's A B C -
I love you and you love me.
I know, know, know
What a beau, beau, beau
Should do, Baby;
So don't, don't, don't
Say it won't, won't, won't
Gome true, Baby.
My heart begins to hum -
Dum de dum de dum-dum-dum,
So do, do, do
What you've done, done, done before.

I love this ENTIRE album!!! How to chose a favourite (Well Read Baby?!) Keenan's album is a tour de force of songs that were written now, but he's so totally internalized the style that they sound like they are from another century! The musicianship, arrangements, and the voice of Laura Windley are great. This is my fave vocal showing from Laura, too! (and she has lots of great records) Can't recommend this highly enough Alex P
I took part in your two live concerts at The Royal Swing Fest in Torino, this weekend.
You're simply amazing.
And your yesterdays last song, "St. James Infirmary"... I'm still getting goose bumps.
Bravissimi, ragazzi! swingphony
