about

This song is a fabulous slow latin dance song written 100 years ago this year. It's my Australian accented homage to the Lecuona Cuban Boys. I sing the 1st chorus in Spanish, the 2nd chorus in Australian English. There's a dance couple who always request this song when we play live. It's a joy to watch them rhumba. The song is Australian 1920s Latin Jazz at a son tempo, perfect for dancing, lounging & shenanigans.

lyrics

Amapola, lindisima amapola
Sera siempre mi alma
Tuya sola
Yo te quiero amada niña mía
Igual que ama la flor la luz del día
Amapola, lindisima amapola
No seas tan ingrata
Mirame
Amapola, amapola
Como puedes tu vivir tan sola.

Amapola, my pretty little poppy
You're like the lovely flower
So sweet and heavenly.

Since I found you
My heart is wrapped around you
And loving you it seems to beat a rhapsody.

Amapola, my pretty little poppy
Must copy its endearing charm from you.
Amapola, amapola
How I long to hear you say, "I love you!"
